Ethereum Quantum Resistance: Ethereum Targets Full Quantum-Resistant Layer 1 by 2029
Ethereum is targeting a fully quantum-resistant Layer 1 by 2029 as part of its long-term blockchain security roadmap. The initiative focuses on upgrading cryptographic systems that could eventually be vulnerable to powerful quantum computers, including consensus signatures, user accounts, data commitments and zero-knowledge technologies. The transition is expected to take several years and will require extensive research, testing and ecosystem-wide upgrades. While quantum computing does not currently pose an immediate threat to Ethereum, the network is preparing early to protect its infrastructure and maintain long-term security, scalability and decentralization.
